What We Believe
We are a community of Christ followers intent on serving Him and others. It is our hope that this page will answer your initial questions about Calvary Baptist of the Northwoods.
We approach our understanding of Christianity through the Five Solas: Faith alone, Scripture alone, Grace alone, Christ alone, and to the Glory of God alone.
Jesus Christ is God’s one and only Son, offered as the sacrifice for sinners who repent of their sin. Jesus takes the substitutional punishment, justifies that sinner, and fills and seals the sinner with the Holy Spirit. Salvation is once complete and eternally secure. Sanctification is the ongoing process of becoming more like Christ. Anyone who receives the free gift of salvation, based on grace alone, has heaven as their eternal destination.
The Word of God, Old and New Testament is respected as inerrant, eternal, living, and active.
God is manifest in three persons referred to as the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Scripture is taught through expository preaching and exegesis – explaining Biblical text based on careful, objective analysis with its original meaning in mind.
A Biblical worldview uniquely satisfies the origin, meaning, morality and destiny questions everyone has. This perspective is the only one which is cohesive and consistent with reality.
Emphasis is put on the study of the Word of God, prayer, living as disciples of Jesus Christ, sharing in the rich fellowship of local church believers and having meaningful relationships with those who need to hear the gospel.
